Είναι γυναίκα ή άντρας; Σίγουρα πυροσβέστης με ύψος 1.90 & τώρα μοντέλο του ουδέτερου φύλου...

Ο/η Dove, ο οποίος έχει ήδη εμφανιστεί στα περιοδικά Vogue, Elle και Cosmopolitan, ντυμένος άλλοτε με ανδρικά και άλλοτε με γυναικεία ρούχα, είναι ακτιβιστής και πιστεύει ότι το γένος είναι απλά ένα κοινωνικό κατασκεύασμα.

Ο Rain Dove είναι σίγουρα μια προσωπικότητα από αυτές που σημαδεύουν τα πνεύματα. Δεν είναι ακριβώς άνδρας, ούτε γυναίκα. Είναι πρώην πυροσβέστης και θέλει να σπάσει εντελώς τα στερεότυπα της κοινωνίας, ενώ τραβάει την προσοχή των μεγαλύτερων περιοδικών στον κόσμο.

Ο Rain Dove δεν είναι ένα μοντέλο όπως τα άλλα. Αυτή η νεαρή Αμερικανίδα έχει την ιδιαιτερότητα να ποζάρει με γυναικεία ή ανδρικά ρούχα. Σε ηλικία 27 ετών, είναι το αγαπημένο ανδρόγυνο πρόσωπο των σχεδιαστών.
Ο ίδιος έχει δηλώσει ότι χρησιμοποίησε την ανδρόγυνη εικόνα του για να προσληφθεί ως πυροσβέστης:
«Οταν ήμουν πυροσβέστης πίστευαν ότι είμαι άνδρας. Αυτό μου άρεσε γιατί τότε χρειαζόταν τη δουλειά και ήμουν ανοιχτά ομοφυλόφιλος, στη μέση του πουθενά, στο Κολοράντο. Επομένως χρησιμοποιήσα το ανδρόγυνο στιλ μου για να βρω τις πιο παράξενες δουλειές, από μπέιμπι σίτινγκ ως αρχιτέκτονας κήπων», σύμφωνα με την The Sun.

Ανακάλυψε τον κόσμο της μόδας, χάρη σε μια φίλη του. Αλλά τα πράγματα δεν πήγαν όπως τα περίμενε. «Οταν έφτασα στο κάστινγκ, μου είπαν ότι δεν ήταν καλή μέρα. Την επομένη είχε κάστινγκ για άνδρες, μου είπαν, πιστεύοντας ότι είμαι άνδρας. Αποφάσισα να κάνω αυτό το κάστινγκ για άνδρες και η καριέρα μου απογειώθηκε», δήλωσε στο περιοδικό Afterellen. Και πρόσθεσε ότι δύσκολα ξεχώριζαν το φύλο του εξαιτίας του ύψους της (1.90) και του ανδρικού σαγονιού που διαθέτει.

“Men’s” vs “Women’s” haircuts have drastically different costs. I interviewed, visited and surveyed over 200 gender specific hair salons and barbershops in LA/NYC/London to ask the pricing of the SAME type of hair cut. Long on top- buzzed sides. Despite the cut being exactly the same- the prices were different at “men’s” vs “women’s” establishments. “Women’s” salons tended to actually charge 1.7x MORE than “Men’s”. ($15 average for men’s vs $26 average for women’s) After interviewing several stylists and barbers about why this is- here are some of the responses I got. “Men don’t complain about their haircuts as much as women. You’re able to get them done faster. Women tend to nitpick and be perfectionists or even return asking for more cleanup on their cuts. That’s why women pay more.” “Women have been brainwashed into seeing hair care as a Luxury experience- but men see it as a basic necessity... like underwear. Men therefore tend to get their haircut more frequently. Whereas women go as a special treat.” “Men pay less but that’s because the experience is often less. It’s quicker and rougher. Whereas women are treated softer, sometimes receive shoulder massages, hair washes, and styling after their cut.” And one more from a barbershop I once went to in San Diego. “Men charge men less because they know that when the man walks out of the salon or barbershop the world will demand more of them. Because they are men. Getting a break in the price of a haircut is a rare refuge from a world that sees men as needing to always pay more- even if they don’t have it.” To break this barrier we simply need to choose the location of our haircut based on the experience we want to have. Not the one society wants to have. To save money on short haircuts likely go to the barbershop. To get pampered likely go to a salon. You might get some looks. But at least you will also be getting equality. Και αν για πολλούς είναι δύσκολο να αποδεχθούν τέτοια χαρακτηριστικά, ο/η Rain δεν υπέφερε ποτέ. Αν κάποιος τον αποκαλέσει «Κύριο» ή «Κυρία» δεν ενοχλείται. Είναι ενδεικτικό ότι στην  Fashion Week, όλοι την πήραν για άνδρα. «Στην Fashion Week, δεν ήξεραν ότι δεν είμαι άνδρας και δεν τους το είπα, δεν πειράζει, είναι καλύτερα έτσι», εξήγησε.

Εξάλλου, είναι θερμή υποστηρικτής της κοινότητας και των δικαιωμάτων LGBT. Και από τότε που έγινε διάσημο μοντέλο, η Rain επωφελείται από τη φήμη της για να περάσει μηνύματα:
«Θέλω οι άνθρωποι να συνειδητοποιήσουν ότι δεν υπάρχει μόνο το σώμα. Είναι κάτι περισσότερο από ένα απλό σώμα. Τα ρούχα δεν θα έπρεπε να είναι κοινωνικά εμπόδια. Το να ντυθείς θα έπρεπε να είναι τέχνη, αλήθεια και τρόπος να δείξεις στον κόσμο τι περιμένουμε από αυτόν».

“Ugly. Maybe if you were more girly you’d get more work. Try not to look so GAY. Put in some actual effort. Grow your hair out. Wear something sexy- maybe even just try fishnet. That’s got an edge to it. Oh and a little lipstick couldn’t hurt.” Tip I got within two weeks of signing to my first modeling agency. But guess what? It wasn’t those suggestions that made my career happen. It was YOU. You the supporters on social media. "The F on my Birth certificate wasn't for Female. It was for Fails To Pass." I joke all the time. The truth is that long hair, short hair, dresses, suits, makeup, clean face, laborer, model no matter what- there is always something off aesthetically or physically about how I fit in that turns every day into a dangerous balancing act- that hasn't gotten easier. But- every day that I live with honest expression, it's worth the trial. Because I am I. I can not be anything there than that. Or else I am not at all. I choose every day to accept the fact that I am not common. And that is scary to some who need predictability or commonness. I can not fault them for their feelings. And they can not fault me for mine. It's nothing to sulk over- we are all just evolving and experiencing our own limited journeys. So I take a moment to collect myself, be grateful I exist at all, and continue. For those who fear me, good luck on your journeys. I promise not to ignore you if you are in need, injured, hungry, asking for aid. I respect that you have your own feelings about me.
